TV presenter and style guru Gok Wan will be awarded an honorary doctorate from Birmingham City University next week.
Born and bred in Leicester, Gok has worked in the fashion industry for the best part of two decades.
He initially trained in performing arts at London's prestigious Central School of Speech and Drama, but his interest was quickly overtaken by his interest in hair and make-up.
This prompted his entry into the fashion industry, where he gained early work as a hair and make-up artist on titles such as The Sunday Times.
Finding himself dissatisfied with beauty alone, Gok decided to pursue his love of clothes as a fashion stylist.
In 2006, Channel 4 took him on to present his own television show, How to Look Good Naked, which lasted for three series.
Nearly 20 years on, Gok's interests now include designing glasses, clothes and providing make-overs for the world's women, from Bolton to Sydney.
Gok has continued to evolve his brand's style while keeping focussed on the individual woman.
Gok has also presented a series of documentaries on social problems among young people, drawing on his personal experiences with obesity and homophobia.
Gok's award ceremony is taking place on Monday at the Symphony Hall, Birmingham, where he will be presented with his award among students graduating from the Schools of Fashion, Textiles and 3D Design and the School of Visual Communication.
